We are an amateur concert band based in Gravesend, Kent, England, with around 30 members. If you play, or have played, a woodwind or brass instrument, are a percussionist or conductor, we would be happy to have you come along to our Thursday night practices, and join us. See our instruments page for a list of instruments used by concert bands.
We do not have any restrictions on who can join the main band, although people who have not attained a standary equivalent to grade 5 will find some of the music we play quite difficult. Having said that, we have all been in that position in the past and inexperienced members are helped along by a more experienced band member. We do however ask that members be willing to play at concerts in and around the area.
To join the training band we ask that the musician is recommended by their teacher, or that they attend an audition. They should be of a standard around grade 3 and be actively practicing.
At present the main band does not charge any weekly membership subscription as generally concert fees, grants, and other donations cover our expenses. Our practice room has ramp access so is accessible by wheelchair users. Members range from teenagers to pensioners, and are all friendly people.
The training band charges a small fee to help cover its rent and for purchasing music etc.
We practice at at Ebbsfleet Rainbow Centre, Rose Street, Northfleet, DA11 9EQ (next door to the Rose public house) most Thursdays.
The training band practices from 18.30 to 19.15, and the main band practice is from 19.30 to 21.30.
